Neutral Posture has created a 10-minute corporate video that introduces the history of Neutral Posture, the ergonomic principles that guide the company and the people that make it the best source for ergonomic products. It focuses on the company’s mission to be the leading provider of high quality, innovative, ergonomic solutions. We’d rather show you than tell you click here to view the video.

Ergonomics has been more than a buzzword around the office for a while now, but there are apparently still many people who do not understand the importance of applying ergonomic principles to their workspace every day. As part of the NP family, we are all responsible for educating people about ergonomics in the workplace (in the office or at home). Recently, Yahoo! News and BBC News Online both featured stories on a new seated posture study that advocates a neutral posture.

In the study Scottish and Canadian researchers used a new form of MRI to study the unnecessary strain on your back that results from poor seated posture. These researchers recommended that workers sit slightly leaning back. A significant portion of workers are found to spend more than 10 hours a day seated and many do not even leave their desks during the workday (not even to have lunch). In addition to sitting at work all day, many workers go home in the evening and sit even more. The researchers also took measurements of spinal angles and spinal disk height and movement across different positions to conclude that leaning slightly back produced less strain on the spinal discs and associated muscles and tendons.

“Dr Waseem Bashir of the Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Alberta Hospital, Canada, who led the study, said, ‘Sitting in a sound anatomic position is essential, since the strain put on the spine and its associated ligaments over time can lead to pain, deformity and chronic illness.’ Levent Caglar from the charity BackCare, added, ‘In general, opening up the angle between the trunk and the thighs in a seated posture is a good idea and it will improve the shape of the spine, making it more like the natural S-shape in a standing posture.’”

Harry from Maryland says –
“I consider your chair the most comfortable task chair I’ve ever used.”

Dannell from Washington states –
“I can tell a huge difference between my chair and the office chairs. I work at home and have to go into the clinic to do work as well. When I am not in my chair my back hurts, I do not type as quickly, and I do not sit correctly. My chair has made a world of difference. People laugh when I tell them how much it cost, but they do not understand how much the chair was worth every penny I spent.”

Jane from Texas says –
“I’ve had my chair for 15 years!”

Neutral Posture is not only concerned with the health and safety of the nation’s workforce, but with protecting the natural environment in which we live. NP’s cardboard shipping boxes are produced from 45‰ recycled material, and 100‰ of the materials come from renewable pulp sources. For large orders, customers can opt to blanket wrap their chairs, which totally eliminates packing waste, or could choose to use a box made from 100‰ recycled materials for an upcharge. Additionally, all cardboard packaging received in NP’s shipping & receiving department is recycled once the contents have been unpacked for storage or use. NP also works with its metal vendors to receive products in large bins that can be returned and reused. Neutral Posture products are safe, comfortable and green.
